On this episode of Rocky Mountain Music Hour, host Devin Scott is joined by longtime Four Corners musician Rockin’ Randy for live music, stories, and a look back at more than two decades of performing around Southwest Colorado.
Randy talks about getting his start in a talent show at Durango’s old Scootin’ Blues, landing a regular gig at what became the Balcony, owning Bayfield Music, and playing with the Jelly Belly Boogie Band. He also shares stories from a career that has included dozens of solo shows each year, performances with his son as Harvest and Son, and opening slots for acts including the Commodores, the Beach Boys, .38 Special, and Kansas.
Along the way, Randy and Devin talk about the enduring appeal of ’70s folk rock, Durango’s live music scene, keeping a simple stage setup, and the artists that shaped Randy’s sound — including CCR, James Taylor, Neil Young, the Eagles, Jim Croce, John Fogerty, and John Prine. Randy performs a collection of favorites including “Lodi,” “You Ain’t Going Nowhere,” “Sweet Baby James,” “Tequila Sunrise,” “Rock and Roll Girls,” and “Angel from Montgomery.”
