On this episode of Rocky Mountain Music Hour, host Devin Scott sits down with Durango musician and songwriter Tyler Reed Smith for an hour of original music, stories, and plenty of laughs.
Tyler talks about his songwriting process and why he sees writing music as a kind of free therapy, along with the unconventional path that took him from casually playing piano to performing with Durango musicians and eventually picking up the guitar. He and Devin also get into learning music through YouTube, the realities of gigging, taking a step back from performing, and the unique world of street musicians in downtown Durango.
Along the way, Tyler performs original songs including “Interstate,” “Power Rangers,” “Baseball Game,” “Mountain Town Tinder,” and more, plus a ukulele rendition of John Prine’s “In Spite of Ourselves.”
Tune in for local music, songwriting stories, Durango humor, and a closer look at the musician behind the songs on Rocky Mountain Music Hour with Devin Scott on 99.7 Radio Free Durango.
