Durango, CO (October 3, 2024) – Durango is getting a new sound. Hutton Broadcasting is changing KKDG 99.7 FM‘s format from CHR to Adult Album Alternative (AAA), introducing the new station, Radio Free Durango, on October 3, 2024. This shift brings a mix of classic and contemporary artists that complement Durango’s outdoor-oriented lifestyle.
A Perfect Match for Durango
“Mountain towns like Durango are a natural fit for the AAA format,” says Hutton Broadcasting Program Director Chris Diestler. “The genre pairs well with outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, and skiing.” With origins in Boulder, AAA has a strong following in similar communities, making it an ideal fit for Durango.
Radio Free Durango will feature a variety of artists, including Bob Marley, Tom Petty, U2, Nirvana, Bonnie Raitt, Beck, and Radiohead, alongside newer voices like Phoebe Bridgers and Billy Strings. Local bands like Elder Grown and Stillhouse Junkies will also be part of the mix.
A Sound for Every Listener
The station promises an eclectic blend of genres, from folk and indie rock to blues, reggae, funk, and soul. “We’re excited to bring the Radio Free brand to Durango,” says General Manager Jack Llewellyn. “The free-form nature of the station fits Durango’s vibe, and we’re confident it will resonate with locals.”
In partnership with the La Plata County Humane Society, Hutton Broadcasting is also giving back to the community. As part of their support, Radio Free Durango will feature “Doggy FM” on Sundays from 8 to 10 a.m., a fun segment designed for animal lovers and their furry companions.
