New Mexico has a rich, multicultural history which can be explored through exciting events held throughout the Land of Enchantment. One event that delves into centuries of Spanish Colonial history is the Traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe, which will be held on the Santa Fe Plaza on July 27 and 28, 2024.
This year the Traditional Spanish Market celebrates its 72nd year of presenting juried arts to the tens of thousands of visitors who flock to Santa Fe to attend. The items for sale during the market reflect those made hundreds of years ago by Spanish colonists using what materials were available.
Some items, such as bultos and retablos, are religious, while colcha embroidery and tinwork are decorative pieces for the home. Leatherwork and pottery can be both practical and decorative. There are 19 categories of arts and crafts available at the market.
Santa Fe is a four-hour drive from Durango, Colorado, making it a reasonable distance for a weekend getaway. Make hotel reservations early to ensure you have a place to stay during this popular Santa Fe event.
Food and entertainment will be available on the plaza as part of the Traditional Spanish Market, which is hosted by the Atrisco Heritage Foundation.Get more information about the Traditional Spanish Market at SantaFe.com.
